My Coming Out Story
I knew for as long as I could remember that I was attracted to females. In 5th grade i realized there was no denying it when i met the crush of my life. However I was ready to figure out how to ask out a girl at 10. Truth or dare became a great way to do things I didn’t know how to express. In 10th grade i got my first official gf. By the time i moved onto my second official gf my mom kinda knew something was odd (i guess when friends appear and disappear as fast as they came… no pun intended) she asked me if i liked girls which i had no problem admitting. She said she was fine with it but that I had to tell everyone right away. My coming out was forced. I was sent down stairs to tell my sister which was something she already figured out. Then my mom drove me to my fathers job to share the news with him. He was cool with it but didn’t understand why it couldn’t wait for me to come home (moms a bit nuts sometimes) She then proceeded to cal the fam up one by one sharing the news. Just her sister and brother and a close cousin. Most said it was fine (which I never really cared about their “approval”) and others had a very opposite reaction. I lost a few friends stopped talking to a few family members but all in all i made new better friends and the relationships that stayed in place only got stronger. My philosophy is if they cant accept you for who u are then they weren’t friends. This show is a wonderful milestone as a society. Hopefully it will open peoples eyes to the fact that it doesn’t matter who you love or what you like we all have similarities and differences and that is what makes us us. As long as you are true to yourself life will fall into place. by Vanessa G
